Alive and
Kicking
Help Information
Introduction Welcome to Alive and Kicking, the ultimate Internet Keep Alive utility for Windows 95/NT.
It's a known fact that some Internet Service providers will disconnect users after a fixed length of out going inactivity on the users modem. This is a great feature but it has one flaw, they don't monitor data being received by your modem, only data being sent. This is fine until you attempt to download that software you've been searching for ...then disaster strikes after you've been downloading for about 15 minutes .....you've just been disconnected by your loving Service Provider.
What can Alive and Kicking do about this?
Once Alive and Kicking is running it will monitor for a Dialup Connection and when it finds one it will automatically start getting/downloading web pages at random Intervals (between 30 seconds and three minutes). For those who don't use Dialup Networking to connect to the Internet Alive and Kicking can be controlled manually. While Alive and Kicking is active it will simulate web browsing by randomly visiting various websites (by default the software comes with 50 different web site addresses) at random intervals giving the impression that you are quite busy browsing the web. It can even crawl through websites if you choose thus enhancing the illusion.
Setup is a snap, Alive and Kicking comes with defaults so you just need to install it. If you like though you can change the add new URLs or replace those that come as default. Options include disabling Dialup monitoring and Web crawling.
Setup and Usage
When Alive and Kicking is active it's icon and always be located in the System Tray (where the clock is). The icon is a navy blue box with a line running through it. The System tray Icon supports both Left Clicking and Right Clicking. If you left click it then the main screen becomes visible, otherwise a menu of options become visible which contains the items discussed below.

Proxy Server
If you need to use a proxy server to access the web then enter the address of it here. If you do not know what this is then please do not enter anything. Your ISP would have advised you if you require this server.
Activate with Dialup Networking
When this option is set Alive and Kicking will wait for an active Dialup Networking connection. Once a connection has been found Alive and Kicking will start downloading the specified web page at the specified interval (Keep Alive), and once the connection has been disconnected Alive and Kicking will stop again.
